Apologies, Art and April!

First of all, I'm sorry (dear blog), that I seem to have abandoned you for a while! I'll be blogging much more from now on. I'll be posting seperate entries about projects from the past few weeks, but I wanted to update you today about a project I'm doing with Hobbycraft Carlisle, at the moment.

In November, I started a huge canvas at my local HC branch. Originally, I believed it to be a line-work piece to be coloured by a Cubs group, so I grabbed a couple of black markers and began to draw. You can see the outcome of the drawing session in the first jpeg I've attached :)

I then learned that the staff at HC would prefer me to work on the canvas instead, which I wasn't too disappointed about! I decided that a mixed media outcome would be really effective and would sum up everything that Hobbycraft is about and got started. The next jpeg shows the stage that the piece was at last week - so far I've painted with acrylic paints, decopatched, collaged with tissue paper, quilled and glittered. I can't wait to see it finished! :)

Today's at-home project, after I've finished a commission I'm working on, is up-cycling a mirror I bought for £2 the other day. I'm currently in two minds whether I want to paint and decorate it, or whether I want to collage it with newspaper. I'm leaning towards the second idea, which means I'll have to get out of my onesie and go grab some newspapers!

More later :)

My name is Marie, and I'm a quilt-aholic.

Just a little quilty update!

For the last couple of days, whilst battling the icky fatigue monster, I've concentrated on adding to my first ever quilt, and this is how it's coming along! (See jpeg!) The middle seven hexagons are all sewn together, the outer twelve still need affixed but I'm super excited. I think I've got a decent start in two days, considering I hand stitch everything :)

I really want to make one more coordinated next time, but we'll see how this one turns out :D

I hope to get some drawing time in tomorrow, and to finish volume 4 of Prisoner Cell Block H (All hail Queen Bea!) so look out for that. Hopefully my fatigue and pain levels won't be as bad tomorrow and I'll be able to get out the house for a bit too :)

Keep crafting!

Marie

Funday Sunday.

[Short post from my phone, I'm very tired!]

So, today is Sunday (says the bright spark in the corner...) and it's been a good one. Weekends spent with people you love, reading, tattooing and crafting always are!

I got to tattoo today after having to take 12 days out due to illness, and I couldn't wait to get back, I was itching to get my machine back in my hands. I've been working on a piece on my mother-in-law's (henceforth known as Mama Sooz :D) thigh for a few sessions now, and was planning on adding a couple more flowers today but we only managed one as her skin decided that bleeding all over the joint was a fun thing to do - honestly, you just can't tell some bodily organs!

I also started a calf piece on my girlfriend today, inspired by a Mehndi piece I did on her a couple of months ago that she really loved. I got the outline almost fully completed before her skin condition (I told you - some organs just don't play fair!) got the better of us. You can see a jpeg [hopefully, if my phone plays fair...) of the tattoo so far below. I'm going to do one more session doing the outline, and a couple more after that doing the colour work. We're planning on going with an autumn colour scheme, dusky oranges and reds and rich greens and browns. It'll look lovely when it's finished :)

And finally for this post, I started my very first patchwork quilt today! I've wanted to make one ever since I was a childling and, after a comment from Mama Sooz's mama, I was presented with a chuck load of material pieces from Mama Sooz to get me started - yay! I'm starting simple, with a hexagonal pattern made from triangles of matching colours, I'm really happy to have a new project to work on and it's been too long since I had a textiles project to work on just for me! Hopefully a jpeg of my handiwork will also appear... I can't wait to do more.

But for now, I must sleep. A day of sewing, drawing and obsessively watching Prisoner Cell Block H awaits tomorrow!

A Brand New Blog, Hoorah!

Hello there, reader!

Somehow, in some perhaps extraordinarily exciting way, you have stumbled upon this blog of mine - welcome (to the house of fun, do-do-do-do-do...) ^_^ Here you will find my creative exploits and adventures as I continue to doodle, tattoo and craft my way through life. Hop on board, grab a seat and I'll be round with the hostess trolley shortly. Cake, anyone?

In posts after this introductory extravaganza, you'll be able to follow my doodlings, learnings of whatever crafts I can get my hands on and my journey into the world of tattooing. It's all very exciting. Also in my artyfarty world is Mehndi, the art and application of henna. In essence, I'll have a go at anything :)

Outside the world of artycraftyloveliness, I read, write, and when I'm in the car; I like to look out of the window, sing loudly and pretend I'm in a music video. I'm rather fond of music, I find it inspires and soothes me a lot. As a Spoonie, I spend a lot of time sleeping and learning to take care of myself, but loving and living my life nevertheless.

So, here I am; Marie, aged 20, Cumbrian.

'She's a quirky one, is Marie. You never quite know what she'll come out with next, but gosh, she'll make you laugh and create something wonderful,' said my favourite art teacher. And I try my best.

:)
